The Health Ranger Mike Adams and Jonathan Landsman from NaturalHealth365.com discuss a lawsuit from a man that claims he found a dead mouse in a can of Mountain Dew. PepsiCo, the company that produces Mountain Dew, is asking the Wisconsin judge to throw out a lawsuit against the company's soda drink by claiming the acid and other chemicals inside the drink would turn the mouse into a jelly-like substance!

I feel that you present phosphoric acid with incomplete information. Phosphoric acid (particularly orthophosphoric acid) is not dangerous to ingest, of course in moderate amounts like anything else. While it is capable of cleaning rust that's because of a simple conversion of Fe203 into ferric phosphate. There were several studies done on whether phosphoric acid caused loss in bone density, and despite some initial concerns, there was no evidence linking the two. Caffeine, however, may lead to higher Calcium secretions. Yes, in your body, chemicals change... it isn't magical, it's practical. bonds break, new bonds are formed, and this happens all the time in the body, especially considering the heat of the stomach. If you don't know chemistry, don't talk it. You should be more worried about the effects of over-dosing sucrose rather than phosphoric acid.

Anybody old enough to remember that Pepsi and coke were regularly used to clean the rust off tools?

When I was younger, sometime in the 60's.....my brother opened a bottle of RC Cola and there was a dead mouse in it. My family took it to the market where it was purchased. The market took it and offered my folks 2 six packs of the same for their trouble! They took it! I don't know if there's a huge difference between Mountain Dew and RC cola in terms of 'dissolving' a critter, but I find it difficult to swallow that the mouse would completely dissolve into a glob of protein matter in soda. Even the bones? I don't think so.

"Mouse-Dew" - good name! They also must put a small mouse into each can. And it must be GM mouse - insoluble! In XIX century, in Moscow, Russia lived famous baker named Filatov. Once in his bakery came a customer and blamed Filatov that in his roll was a cockroach. Filatov said: "Let me see this roll". When customer gave him roll, Filatov laughed and said: "It is not a cockroach! It is a raisin!" - and immediately ate it. Since that he started to produce rolls with raisin. It could be another solution for Pepsi-Co. They can say: It was not mouse. It was a pear... or apricot... just a little bit hairy. And since that they can start new line of soda.

Duh. This is NOT new!! My High School science class did experiments with Coke, Pepsi, Dew, and A&W Root Beer - back in the 70's - we put a small STEAK in a jar with each drink and left it there... Only the Root Beer Steak survived!!
