Boiled Vegetables with Gravy

Ingredients

5-7 shiitake mushrooms
1/2 large carrot
15 spears of fresh asparagus
1 can of baby corn
1/2 tbsp of corn starch
1 tbsp of sesame oil
4 tbsp of cooking oil
1 tsp of salt
3 tbsp of chicken (vegetable) broth
Water
(Optional) 2 tbsp of oyster sauce
(Optional) 1/2 tbsp of soy sauce

Directions

Bring water to a boil.
Cut carrot and asparagus spears into 3 inch sections.
Remove the stems of the shiitake mushrooms and cut a cross pattern into the cap.
Add salt and half of the cooking oil to the boiling water.
Boil carrot, asparagus, and mushrooms for about 2 minutes.
Add baby corn and cook for an additional minute.
Remove all vegetables from the boiling water and soak them in cold water.
Arrange them neatly on a platter.

Directions for Gravy

Mix corn starch with about 30 ml of water.
Heat saucepan over medium to high heat.
Add the remaining cooking oil, sesame oil, oyster sauce, soy sauce, chicken broth, and corn starch mixture.
Cook until it thickens, then remove from heat.
Pour gravy over top of the vegetables on the platter and serve!
