Satcon Technology to supply Prism Platform for 2nd largest North America solar plant
Satcon Technology Corp. has been selected by Q-Cells North America to supply an additional 40 MW of their Prism Platform solutions for the Starwood project in Sault St Marie, Ontario. The combined 60 MW project, when complete, will be the second largest in North America and among the largest in the world. Q-Cells will deploy a combination of eight 1.25-MW Equinox Prism Platforms and 24, 1.25-MW Solstice Prism Platform solutions.
CommScope introduces global energy conservation initiative for wireless industry
CommScope Inc. has launched an energy conservation initiative that supports the industry’s global efforts in reducing power consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and operating costs. It is estimated that the operation of telecommunications networks is responsible for 0.5% of all CO2 emissions worldwide. With the wireless industry’s heightened awareness of their networks’ environmental impact, operators are seeking ways to rapidly reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner environment by reducing CO2 and other greenhouse gases that are being blamed as one of the potential causes of global climate change. Many operators have set goals to reduce their energy consumption by about 25% within the next 10 years.
Invenergy Wind secures financing for 110.4-MW Michigan wind farm
Invenergy Wind LLC has arranged equity financing from General Electric unit GE Energy Financial Services for its 110.4-MW Gratiot County Wind Project under construction near Breckenridge, Michigan. GE Energy Financial Services will invest an undisclosed amount in project, which is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2012. The project will sell all of its power and renewable energy attributes to DTE Energy under a long-term contract.
GE Energy partners with Inovateus Solar to build solar carport charging stations
GE Energy Industrial Solutions has reached a partnership agreement to work with Inovateus Solar to build new solar carports with electric vehicle chargers. GE Energy Industrial Solutions collaborated with Inovateus this year to build a 100-kWh solar carport at its facility in Plainville, Conn. The solar carport can generate enough energy to offset the power needed to charge up to 13 electric vehicles per day, using the six installed Level 2 GE DuraStation EV charging stations, as well as all the overhead lighting in the parking lot.
